How do I get to Canal Park?

Canal Park is easily accessible via MetroRail (Green Line), Metro Bus & Circulator, Capital Bikeshare, and bicycle racks are available on-site. The nearest stops are located by the Navy Yard-Ballpark Metro Station, New Jersey Avenue exit at the corner of M Street SE and New Jersey Avenue SE. From here, walk 1 block east on M Street SE. Canal Park will be on your left at 200 M Street SE, extending north of M Street for three blocks.

Is parking available near Canal Park?

Limited metered street parking is available on a first-come, first served basis. For more detailed information on area parking lots, visit For more details, visit Capitol Riverfront Public Parking.

Where are the public restrooms?

Small public restrooms are located in the Wiseguy Pizza building on the South Block. These can be accessed without entering the restaurant. Look for the “Restrooms” sign on the north end of this building, facing 2nd Street SE.

Is the park handicapped accessible?

Yes, there are ramps and sidewalks that provide wheelchair access to all areas of the park from the street and crosswalks.

Is alcohol allowed in the park?

Alcohol is prohibited in the park in accordance with DC public park regulations. For rules regarding alcohol service during reserved events, please see the Park Rules tab.

May my dog come along to enjoy the park?

Yes, but dogs must be on a leash in the park. As a courtesy to everyone, please come prepared to clean up after your pet as well. Dogs are not allowed in any of the water features.

Is smoking allowed?

By DC Law, smoking is prohibited in Canal Park.

Can we grill in the park?

No, we do not allow grilling or open flames in the park. Please bring a picnic instead.

Are there restaurants where I can have a meal close to the park?

There are a large variety of restaurants near Canal Park with something for everyone. Check out Eat & Drink on the Capitol Riverfront page for a restaurant map and details. Restaurants in and immediately adjacent to the park include Wiseguy Pizza, Subway, Five Guys, Cornercopia, and more.

Is WiFi available in the park?

No, there is no wifi in the park.

Does Canal Park have a lost and found?

All lost and found items are kept at the Capitol Riverfront BID office. Contact events@capitolriverfront.org  with any inquiries. If you lost your items while visiting the Canal Park Ice Rink, contact their office directly at 202-850-0859.

When does the park open and close?

The park opens at sunrise and closes at sundown.

Water Features

Can kids play in the fountains and water scrims?

Yes! We encourage you to cool off in the water features. Please read the Park Rules for water features before engaging with them. There is no lifeguard on duty so use at your own risk.

How do I know if the water features will be running?

Please check the Canal Park website, Facebook (Canal Park DC), and Twitter (@canalparkdc) for status update on water features. Regularly scheduled maintenance is twice a week.
