Development Overview

The Capitol Riverfront, the “Front,” is DC’s new neighborhood on the river, a growing district-within-the-District that extends the city’s skyline to the water’s edge. Located just five blocks south of the US Capitol Building, the Front offers the best in city living with the extraordinary advantages of a riverfront setting, distinct industrial heritage, and access to what matters: multi-modal transportation access, unique parks and trails, sports and entertainment, exceptional value, and proximity to Capitol Hill. In the Front, DC’s businesses and residents are part of a once-in-a-generation opportunity—shaping a new community on the river.

The Front is already home to a mixed-use community of over 35,000 daytime employees in 7.2 million SF of office including the Washington Navy Yard and U.S. Department of Transportation, 3,036 residential units including apartments, condos, co-ops and townhouses with an estimated residential population of 4,000 people, a 204-room Courtyard by Marriott, the 41,000 seat Nationals Park baseball stadium, and a continuous one mile riverwalk trail from Diamond Teague Park to the 11th Street bridges.  An estimated 2.6 million people visited the Capitol Riverfront during the 2012 calendar year to attend events at Nationals Park, the Navy Museum, and the Yards Park.
