Welcome to the

Capitol Riverfront!

The Capitol Riverfront is DC’s new neighborhood by Nationals Park—but it’s much more than just baseball.  The Capitol Riverfront is DC’s destination for parks, entertainment and the best of urban life.

Centrally located between the U.S. Capitol Building, Anacostia River and Barracks Row Main Street, the Capitol Riverfront is easily accessible via the Metrorail Green line (Navy Yard) and Orange/Blue lines (Capitol South), I-395 & I-295, the Circulator Bus from Union Station (spring 2009), Reagan National Airport, and numerous signed bike routes.

The Capitol Riverfront is a business center, urban neighborhood, retail and entertainment district and waterfront destination.  Attractive to business, residents and visitors, the Capitol Riverfront has 30+ LEED certified existing or planned buildings, four new parks and a 16-mile riverwalk trail.  In addition, the Capitol Riverfront offers a new neighborhood to shop, dine, enjoy entertainment and experience the river.

The Capitol Riverfront Business Improvement District (BID) is dedicated to making the neighborhood clean, safe, friendly, and vibrant; to creating the best quality of life in the neighborhood; and to attracting office tenants, residents, retailers and visitors.

Why
Business Improvement Districts (BID) have proved extremely effective in improving urban neighborhoods and downtowns across the United States, resulting in higher property values and an improved quality of life for employees, residents and visitors. The success of BIDs in downtown Washington and adjacent neighborhoods is well documented and the model is ready for application to the rapidly developing Capitol Riverfront. The Capitol Riverfront BID services build upon the assets of the area and the emerging development dynamic to make the district a thriving destination.
How
A business improvement district (BID) is a geographic area where the majority of property owners agree to pay a supplementary real property tax in order to enhance the public realm and ensure the economic vitality of the area. The Capitol Riverfront BID was formed pursuant to the District of Columbia Business Improvement Districts Act of 1996 and authorizes an initial five-year BID term. The Capitol Riverfront is a 501(c)(6) non-profit corporation and is governed by a board of directors of not more than twenty-one (21) members. The board will oversee all Capitol Riverfront BID programs and policies, while an executive committee will oversee the BID’s finance, budget and personnel activities. The Capitol Riverfront BID is required by law to issue an annual report on its progress.
Where
The Capitol Riverfront BID contains approximately 100 blocks and is bounded to the north by I-395, to the south by the Anacostia River, to the east by 15th St, SE and to the west by S. Capitol Street and the Fredrick Douglass Bridge, with an extension west into Buzzards Point to 2nd St, SW and with a northern Buzzard Point boundary of Q St, SW between 2nd SW and Half St, SW and of P St, SW between Half St, SW and S. Capitol St.
