The Fredrick Douglass Bridge was lowered in 2008 and now meets Potomac Avenue, SE in an at-grade intersection that allows right turns onto Potomac Avenue in front of Nationals Park. South Capitol Street will continue to be renovated as a grand, urban boulevard, culminating in the construction of a new Douglass Memorial Bridge and elliptical traffic circle that will serive as open space for future monuments and memorials.
